During high school, she attended Minneapolis North High, which opened doors and gave her the opportunity to be a part of the Performing Arts Dance Magnet and the Colleen and Kids Dance Company that toured the State of Minnesota.
As a young adult she hosted a weekly Open-Mic event called, "Vibin" at the Soul City Supper Club in Minneapolis. This started her venture into writing and recording music. She connected with many local artists from Minneapolis, and as she did collaboration projects, it helped point her into the right direction to become a successful solo artist and gave her a pathway to develop her unique style.
She has performed with artists such as JKwon, Meech, and Kip Blackshire, as well as many upcoming and talented local artists from Minneapolis such as Rico Nevotion, Katana and many others.
During the summer of 2008, Janey and local artist Katana, toured the island of Oahu, Hawaii. They worked closely with a local band called, The Blue Light Funk Band. This was an important part of her maturity as an artist as she learned how to direct and work intimately with a full band.
Her debut album, "Blue Dandelions", now available on iTunes, has received rave reviews and has caught the attention of many well established producers and musicians and continues to catch the attention of any who listens. She has been featured on many radio stations in Minneapolis as well as Internet radio.
Janey Neal, is one of the many gifted and talented artist in the country no doubt; as she writes all of her material, and takes the time to give it her personal touch that is unlike any artist in the industry today. Many have compared her to Annie Lennox, Sade, Macy Grae and other soulful Neo-Soul/R&B artist of old and new.
During the summer of 2008, Janey will be releasing her Sophomore album, “Curtains”. She has very personal, introspective and intimate lyrics, with soft melodies, and a classy style that creates unforgettable moments for each individual as they listen. She has the ability to write in a way that each song can relate back to the listeners life experiences, drawing them in with a mix of styles and genres.
Her music is perfect for driving or being with your loved one, next to a fireplace drinking some good wine. All the songs flows fluently and get you from the inside with passion. Her songs have many elements of ambient lounge music like, “I Wanna Thank You”, but you cant pass up the fun and amazing blues she belts out in “Momma Said”.
This mix of elements, gives Janey a very personal and unique style! She has definitely matured as an artist since her debut album, "Blue Dandelions". She has worked with new various artists, on this album and has found a sense of confidence in her work as you can easily hear. Her emotional roller coaster has given her a diversity of material to write in the most simplest form of outlet - Singing from her soul.
